Canton High School Mission Statement
It is the mission of Canton High School serving as an advocate for respect, responsibility, and positive attitude to graduate students capable of making educated decisions, enabling them to become confident, self-sufficient, and productive citizens in an ever-changing global society.

Canton High School is a four-year school serving the communities of and within the boundaries of Canton School District #66.  The attendance center serves a wide variety of family dwellings.  The anticipated school enrollment for the 2007-2008 school year is 750 students.   Students in the class of 2007 - 2009 are required to earn 22 credits in order to graduate.  The class of 2010 will be required to earn 23 credits and the class of 2011 (and thereafter) will be required to earn 24 credits.
A comprehensive educational program is offered to the students of Canton High School.  The curriculum offers appropriate courses for career/technical, as well as college-prep students.  CHS employs 54 certified staff members in 13 different departments.

Canton Union School District #66 is rich in history.  On March 29, 1869, the Canton School District was established with a charter that, today, provides it with authority not given to all school districts.  However, Canton had schools long before the Charter of 1869.  As early as 1825, Canton had a building that housed a school.  In June of 1860, construction began for the first Canton High School which was used until a new high school was erected at 20 West Walnut Street.  That building was opened April 1, 1904.  It had 3 floors with 20 classrooms, a science lab, a library, a chorus room, a gymnasium, and an assembly room with seating for 400. The building was “state of the art” for the time.  A portion of it is still used today to house the Superintendent’s Office.  Students were moved from that school to the current location of Canton High School at 1001 North Main Street in January of 1953.  A major building project added 10 classrooms to the building in the mid 1970s when 9th grade students were moved from the junior high to the high school.  The building currently has 40 classrooms, a library, 5 computer labs, a chorus and band room, two gymnasiums, as well as a vocational wing that houses a metal shop, an agriculture shop and greenhouse, a woods shop, and an automotive shop.
