Mrs. Grace, Mrs. Rusch, Mrs. Franciskovich, Mrs. Gomes, and Mr. Schwalm teach The Champions. Parents can reach these teachers by phone or by appointment most mornings from 8:19-9:00 in Mrs. Fran’s room.

At the end of each quarter, the eighth grade arranges an incentive trip for students who fulfill the following expectations: regular school attendance with no unexcused absences, no Status Red placement for the quarter, all library fines and lunch charges paid, all notes, signature slips, etc., returned, and classroom assignments and requirements for each teacher fulfilled. The Champions teachers are proud of the large number of students who earn the privilege of participating in these quarterly incentives.

Other notable outings done by the Champions team include a spring field trip to Springfield to visit a variety of Lincoln sites. This trip is part of an interdisciplinary unit that also includes students reading Lincoln, A Photobiography and studying local support of the Underground Railroad as well as other aspects of that time period.

The culmination of eighth grade is Outward Ingersoll, a three-day interdisciplinary outdoor education unit held at Ingersoll Scout Camp near London Mills. During the first two days, the schedule is altered, with days beginning at 8:15 and ending at 5:15. On Thursday, our students return it school by 3:07. At least thirty to forty parent volunteers are needed to conduct this program each day. Parents will receive information in April about volunteering and participating in a memorable experience.
