Madison Strantz and Phillip Murphy have been selected as the D.A.R. and S.A.R. winners at Canton High School for the 2018-2019 school year.
Madison is the daughter of Karen & Rick Smolczyk and Russell & Julie Strantz. She has been involved in Volleyball, Spanish Club, Scholastic Bowl, Speech Team, Club Unified, the CHS Technology Helpdesk and her local youth group during high school. Madison is currently the Senior Class President, German Club Vice President, Math Team Secretary and Varsity Soccer Captain. Madison has been named to the East Peoria Soccer All-Tournament Team, Junior Homecoming Attendant and Athlete of the Month. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, Delta Epsilon Phi and the Youth Leadership Academy. Madison is considering attending the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. She plans on majoring in Foreign Language, specifically German and Spanish, in college. Phillip is the son of Phyllis & Matthew Murphy. He has been involved in Football, Marching Band, Symphonic Band – All District and All State, Jazz Band, Band Section Leader, Madrigal Brass, Scholastic Bowl, Science Olympiad, Math Team, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Student Council, Class Officer, Table Top Gaming Club, Archery Team, Bass Fishing, St. Mary’s Youth Group, Thespian Club, CHS Sound and Lighting Crew, Pit Orchestra, Best Buddies, Bradley University Honor Band and WIU Honor Band. Phillip is also an Eagle Scout. Phillip is planning to attend the U of I and study Mechanical Engineering. These students were nominated by their peers and voted on by faculty, based on scholarship, leadership and service. |
