PARENTS, FRIENDS, & GUARDIANS: Since Sunday district school officials have created a page that provides up-to-date information. The page may be found on our website at www.cantonusd.org.
NEW STATE INFORMATION Gov. JB Pritzker yesterday issued an executive order forbidding all public and private crowds of fifty people or more in the state for the duration of his disaster declaration, which began on March 9 and lasts for 30 days. Yesterday President Trump advised that crowds be limited to no more than 10.
NEW CANTON INFORMATION Today the Canton school district prepared 500 meals and at this time has delivered over 250. We expect the meal amount to climb as information of the program is disseminated throughout the community. Tomorrow we expect to prepare 500 and deliver as many food packages as needed throughout the community. Also today our custodial staff began cleaning and disinfecting all schools. At this time it is unknown if the state will extend the closure beyond 3/30/20.

PARENTS, FRIENDS and GUARDIANS:
Last night Governor JB Pritzker issued an Executive Order indicating that all days of the school closure will be counted as Act of God Days. Emergency Days will not be used. At this time, these Act of God Days do not need to be made up at the end of the school year. Please monitor this site for daily announcements.

WHAT WE KNOW
The governor has closed buildings effective March 17 thru March 30, 2020. The governor has also limited events exceeding 1000 people and has recommended that no events exceeding 250 people be conducted. THIS IS A VERY FLUID ENVIRONMENT THAT MAY CHANGE DAILY. WE ARE CONCERNED THAT THE SCHOOL CLOSURE MAY BE EXTENDED BEYOND THE DAYS DESIGNATED BY THE GOVERNOR.
CALENDAR
Next week we will amend the school calendar and designate March 17th-20th as emergency days. These days will be made up at the end of the year. March 30th will be an Act of God day (this will not be made up). March 31st will be a Teacher’s Institute (TI). The TI day will be spent developing e-Learning plans and receive additional training if needed, all certified and non-certified staff are expected to attend this day. At this point in time, if the closure is not extended, we plan to welcome our students back to school on April 1st.
During the closure our administrative staff will be preparing for e-Learning activities in the event that the closure is extended by the governor. Administrative staff will also be meeting with other community and state agencies to coordinate services in the event that the closure is extended.
E-LEARNING PLANS FOR FUTURE DEPLOYMENT
To be prepared for possible e-Learning days in the future, devices will be sent home with students in grades 5-12 on Monday, March 16. Pre-k thru grade 4 students will be provided with alternative learning materials at a later date if needed.
IT SUPPORT FOR STAFF AND STUDENT
In closing, I want to emphasize this is a very fluid environment and changing daily. The district will issue a daily report via Facebook, our website, and Skylert. We are all working as a team to accomplish our mission and vision. If you have further questions relating to this correspondence please discuss those issues with your building principal. We are scheduled to meet with Arbor employees Monday to develop plans to provide meals for those in need.
